Island In The Sun - Having Fun Again

First, to my friends who have been worried – I'm sorry I went missing for the weekend! (And right now I'm finally in SUNNY WONDERFUL WARM Florida!) I'm safe - just tired. Coming to the American Southeast has been far more difficult than I imagined. Finding wireless internet is a struggle. There are no taxis, few local trains, and scary buses. South Carolina and Atlanta zapped me of energy. I’m afraid I spent most of the weekend on Greyhound buses...trying to sleep...but also keeping an eye open for thieves. Quite stressful. On a bus into Atlanta on Saturday I woke to find the woman in the seat next to me unzipping my backpack. Luckily nothing has been stolen.

Let me skip all the struggles – train to Charlotte took forever. Then nightmare bus to Atlanta. All day yesterday was a trial of getting to West Palm Beach.
as I did not meet anyone fun all weekend – till I arrived here in West Palm Beach Florida Late Last Night

Last night I stayed at Hotel Biba. Its modern fun colorful and comfortable. When I arrived I had 2 drinks at the wine bar, talked with the bartender who had lots of advice for my week in Florida. He also said I was lucky to have made it through "the South" backpacking.

West Palm Beach is the most beautiful beaches – tropical paradise – palm tress- I feel like I endured hell to get to heaven. The color of the sand, the water, the sun. And its HOT! I surely don’t care that I lost a glove in Philadelphia. and I saw on TV that NYC got another big snowstorm! I'm glad I got out of the Northeast and went south instead of up to Boston.

right now I'm at a coffeeshop, trying to find a place to store my belongings. Perhaps paying the hotel to keep my stuff safe while I get a tan at the beach! I also hear there is a huge enclave of gay men here and in other cities in Florida. Hooray!

The bartender last night was warning me about "Spring Break". It seems my arrival corresponds with "Spring Break". I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad coincidence yet. He said its like a MTV reality show...but I'm not sure what that means.
At this very moment I couldn't care less about anything. Time for a drink and some sun and my ipod on the beach!
