Taking Chances

On saturday night I met a man over the internet who wanted to take me out for a nice dinner. His email was wonderful. He said he was 24, working as a booking agent for a bunch of bands that tour the USA, UK, and Europe. Educated from Harvard. And his pic was rather handsome. He said he could sympathize with my journey in the States as he had toured with bands he has worked with, in a van...and he know a good travel day can be hard to find when you're trying to make memories out of chaos.

Lets call him Jason...(and "Jason" - if youre reading this - thanks again! it was a fantastic time!) Jason lived in Brooklyn in an area called Park Slope. I guess its named so because its a large walk uphill. I took a subway, got off at an outside station, and met him at a gay bar called Excelsior a short walk away.. I recognized him instantly from his pic, we had a round of whiskeys, and he seemed to know everyone at the bar. I felt a bit the celebrity myself being introduced around the room.

We walked a few streets to Blue Ribbon, a meat and fish fare. He had luckily made reservations as it was packed inside. A bottle of pinot noir, an excellent meal, and converations about everything from childhood vacations to gay bar urinal etiquette.

After the meal we wanted a night cap, but Excelsior was a bit too rough after such a civilized dinner. I seemed to have gotten further plastered than i intended. Jason offered his couch. And that all I'm telling you.

I woke up in the morning...Jason asked to take some photos of me to remember the date. I obliged...although I looked like hell. (and those photos are his - so don't ask me to see them) Jason will hopefully visit me at home this summer. I took the subway back to Manhattan - Erik was at home when i arrived - and we went out to brunch at Life Cafe. I had a disgusting Bloody Mary, then passed out on the sofa when we got back to the pad. Erik watched some music awards show nonsense on television, and I read TimeOut NY looking for a show to see before i leave NYC.

speaking of...Erik and I agreed last night that today is my last staying with him...so that my cue to get my plan in order and buy rail tickets! There is a cheap hotel on 19th street i might linger in for a night or two...or i may try my luck in craigs list again.
